Joe Jackson Gibbs, is an American auto racing team owner, who was born on November 25, 1940, and used to be a football coach. He was the head coach of the Washington Redskins in two separate periods. The first one was from 1981 to 1992, and the second one was from 2004 to 2007. Over the course of 16 seasons, Gibbs guided the team to an impressive nine playoff appearances, securing four NFC Championship titles, and clinching three Super Bowl victories.

Gibbs received the NFL Coach of the Year award in both 1982 and 1983. He holds the unique distinction of being the only head coach to have won Super Bowls with three different starting quarterbacks. In 1992, he and his family established the NASCAR team called Joe Gibbs Racing. Since then, the team has achieved the remarkable feat of winning five NASCAR championships. In 1996, Gibbs was honored with induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Then, in 2020, he received another prestigious recognition when he was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame. It’s worth noting that Gibbs is the only person to be a member of both halls. Additionally, he was voted onto the NFL 100th Anniversary All-Time Team, further solidifying his legacy in football.

Joe Gibbs, the former head coach of the Washington Football Team (formerly known as the Washington Redskins) in the NFL and the owner of Joe Gibbs Racing in NASCAR, has two sons:

J.D. Gibbs (Jason Dean Gibbs) – J.D. was heavily involved in Joe Gibbs Racing and held various positions within the organization. Sadly, J.D. Gibbs passed away in January 2019 after battling a degenerative neurological disease.

Coy Gibbs – Coy has been involved in both football and motorsports. He worked as an assistant coach in the NFL and has held roles within Joe Gibbs Racing.

Joe Gibbs’ career has been notable not only for his successes in both football and motorsports but also for the family-oriented nature of his operations, particularly in NASCAR.
