Paul Davis Ryan is an American politician who used to be in politics. He held the position of the 54th speaker of the United States House of Representatives from 2015 to 2019. He was a member of the Republican Party and served as the vice presidential nominee in the 2012 election. He ran alongside Mitt Romney but unfortunately lost to the incumbent president Barack Obama and then-vice president Joe Biden.
Ryan is from Janesville, Wisconsin and he completed his studies at Miami University in 1992. He worked for Congress in Washington, D.C. for a period of five years. Afterward, he pursued a career as a speechwriter and made his way back to Wisconsin in 1997 to join his family’s construction company. The next year, he was elected to Congress to represent Wisconsin’s 1st congressional district.
He took over the position from a Republican Congressman who had left to run for the U.S. Senate. Ryan is going to serve as the district representative for a period of 20 years. From 2011 to 2015, he was in charge of the House Budget Committee. In 2015, he briefly took over as the chair of the House Ways and Means Committee before being elected as the Speaker of the House in October 2015, after John Boehner retired.
