Jack Thayer, whose full name was John Borland Thayer Jr., was an American businessman and Titanic survivor. He was born on December 24, 1894, in Pennsylvania, USA. At the time of the Titanic’s maiden voyage in 1912, Thayer was a 17-year-old first-class passenger traveling with his parents, John Borland Thayer and Marian Longstreth Morris Thayer.

When the Titanic struck an iceberg on April 14, 1912, Jack Thayer and his mother boarded Lifeboat No. 4, while his father remained on board and unfortunately did not survive the sinking. Thayer’s mother also perished in the frigid waters of the North Atlantic.

After the tragedy, Jack Thayer returned home and eventually went on to become a successful businessman. He served in the military during World War I and later worked in various industries, including finance and real estate. Throughout his life, Thayer occasionally spoke about his experiences on the Titanic and wrote about his memories in private journals.
