Jim Harbaugh is an American football coach and former player. Born on December 23, 1963, in Toledo, Ohio, Harbaugh has had a successful career both on the field and on the sidelines. As a player, he was a quarterback in the National Football League (NFL) for 14 seasons, playing for teams such as the Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts, Baltimore Ravens, and San Diego Chargers.
During his playing career, Harbaugh earned a reputation for his competitiveness and leadership on the field. He led the Colts to an AFC Championship appearance in 1995 and was named to the Pro Bowl in 1995 and 1996.After retiring as a player, Harbaugh transitioned to coaching. He began his coaching career at the University of San Diego, where he turned around a struggling program and led the team to consecutive Pioneer Football League championships.
His success at San Diego caught the attention of Stanford University, where he served as the head coach from 2007 to 2010. Under Harbaugh’s leadership, the Stanford Cardinal football team experienced a revitalization, culminating in an Orange Bowl victory in 2010.In 2011, Harbaugh made the jump to the NFL as the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers. In his first season, he led the team to the NFC Championship game and came within a few plays of winning the Super Bowl. Harbaugh’s tenure with the 49ers was marked by success, as he guided the team to three consecutive NFC Championship appearances.
He has been praised for his ability to develop quarterbacks, as he played a key role in the development of Colin Kaepernick.Harbaugh currently serves as the head coach of the University of Michigan Wolverines football team, a position he has held since 2015.
