Phyllis Ada Diller was a multi-talented American entertainer. She was a stand-up comedian, actress, author, musician, and visual artist. Phyllis was famous for her unique stage persona, where she embraced self-deprecating humor, had wild hair and clothes, and had an exaggerated, cackling laugh.
Diller was among the first female comedians to gain widespread recognition in the United States. She was acknowledged as an influential figure by Joan Rivers, Roseanne Barr, Ellen DeGeneres, and many others. Many people in the LGBTQ+ community were big fans of hers, and she is widely regarded as a beloved figure within the gay community. She was also among the first celebrities to openly support and advocate for plastic surgery, which earned her recognition from the cosmetic surgery industry.
Diller was involved in over 40 films, starting with Splendor in the Grass in 1961. She has made appearances in many television series, including numerous cameos, as well as having her own short-lived sitcom and variety show. She has been involved in various projects such as Night Gallery, The Muppet Show, The Love Boat, Cybill, and Boston Legal. Additionally, she has worked on The Bold and the Beautiful for a total of 11 seasons. She did voice-acting for various characters, such as the monster’s wife in Mad Monster Party, the Queen in A Bug’s Life, Granny Neutron in The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius, and Thelma Griffin in Family Guy.
