Cesar Demontaño Manhilot, who goes by the stage name Cesar Montano, is a well-known Filipino actor, film producer, film director, and has aspirations of becoming a politician.
Montano began his career in the entertainment industry by working as a commercial model. He appeared in many B movies. Afterwards, he went on to star in various action movies and had a short stint on television as the main character in the sitcom called Kaya ni Mister, Kaya ni Misis. One of the roles he is most famous for is playing the main character, José Rizal, in the movie called José Rizal. His first Hollywood film was The Great Raid, a war film in which he had a starring role.
Montano has received many acting awards for his performances in Panaghoy sa Suba (“The Call of the River”), José Rizal, Muro Ami (“Reef Hunters”), and Bagong Buwan (“New Moon”).
In addition to his acting career, Montano also pursued singing and released his music album Subok lang or Just try in 2000. He has also tried his hand at film production and directing. His directorial debut was Panaghoy sa Suba.
He ran for Senate in May 2007 as part of the TEAM Unity (TU) coalition, but unfortunately, he did not win. According to a report from GMA News, it was mentioned that he lost approximately P40 million worth of endorsement deals due to his decision to run for public office. In addition, Montano was unsuccessful in the 2010 Gubernatorial race in his hometown of Bohol.
Montano became an official contract artist of GMA Network on July 13, 2010. He signed a two-year exclusive contract with the network. He decided to leave GMA 7 in 2012 and joined TV5’s Artista Academy.
In 2016, Montano ran as the second nominee of the Aangat Tayo party-list in the national elections. Unfortunately, he did not win. He was appointed as the Chief Operation Officer of the Tourism Promotions Board by Tourism Secretary Wanda Corazon Teo in the same year.
