Juanita Dale Slusher, best known by her stage name Candy Barr, was an American actress, stripper, burlesque dancer, and adult model who appeared in men’s magazines during the mid-1900s. She lived from July 6, 1935, to December 30, 2005.
She gained widespread notoriety in the 1950s for her employment as a stripper in Dallas, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas, her run-ins with the law, the gunshot death of her second husband, and her imprisonment for drug possession. Barr also had romantic ties with Jack Ruby and Mickey Cohen.
Barr relocated to South Texas following his three-year prison sentence. In the late 1960s, she went back to stripping, and in 1976, she did a photo shoot for Oui magazine before retiring. Barr and other Texans, such as Lady Bird Johnson, were recognized in the early 1980s issue of Texas Monthly as one of the “perfect Texans” in history.

According to reports, Juanita suffered from sexual molestation as a child at the hands of a babysitter and a neighbor. When she was thirteen, she fled her house and traveled to Dallas, where she worked in a motel. Slusher started her prostitution business there. She supposedly wed Billy Joe Debbs, also known as Dabbs, for the first time when she was fourteen years old, but the union ended when Debbs was arrested for safecracking. Prior to becoming an exotic dancer, she was a waiter as well.
