Bass Reeves was a legendary lawman of the Wild West who served as a deputy U.S. marshal in the Indian Territory (now Oklahoma). He is often credited as one of the first Black deputy U.S. marshals west of the Mississippi River. Over his long career, he reportedly arrested more than 3,000 felons and shot and killed 14 outlaws in self-defense.
Bass Reeves was married to Nellie Jennie from Texas, and they had several children. Here are some of the children that have been documented:
Robert Reeves
Bennie Reeves
Lula Reeves
Sally Reeves
Eugene Reeves
Joel Reeves
George Reeves
Alphonso Reeves
Walter Reeves
Harriet Reeves
It’s worth noting that information about historical figures, especially from the 19th century, can sometimes be limited or inconsistent due to record-keeping practices of the time. However, it is clear that Bass Reeves had a sizable family.
