Hal Linden is a multi-talented individual who has made a name for himself in various fields. He is known for his work as an American stage and screen actor, television director, and musician.
In the 1950s, Linden started his career as a musician and singer in a big band. Once he completed his time in the United States Army, he decided to pursue a career in acting.
He started off by working in summer stock and off-Broadway productions. Linden achieved success on Broadway when he took over the role of Sydney Chaplin in the musical Bells Are Ringing. He played the role of Billy Crocker in the off-Broadway revival of the Cole Porter musical Anything Goes in 1962. He won a Best Actor Tony Award in 1971 for playing Mayer Rothschild in the musical The Rothschilds.
Linden’s most famous role came in 1974 when he landed the part of the title character in the television comedy series called Barney Miller. He won seven Primetime Emmy Awards and was nominated for three Golden Globe Awards. Throughout the duration of the series, Linden also had the opportunity to host two educational shows called Animals, Animals, Animals and FYI. He received two special Daytime Emmy Awards for the latter series. In 1995, Linden was honored with a third Daytime Emmy Award for their outstanding guest-starring role on CBS Schoolbreak Special. Linden has been pursuing his career in the entertainment industry, performing on stage, appearing in films, and making guest appearances on television shows. In 2011, he came out with his debut album called “It’s Never Too Late,” which featured a collection of pop and jazz standards.
