Canadian music star The Weeknd has been officially declared the most popular artist in the world by record-keeping organization The Guinness Book of Records.
In an announcement on March 20, 2023, by Guinness World Records, Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, popularly known as The Weeknd, is the most popular artist in the world, with the organization stating that “no one else comes close”.
The Weeknd became the first artist to surpass over 100 million monthly listeners (112 million as of March 24, 2023) on Spotify, a record he exclusively holds with Miley Cyrus coming in a distant second with 83 million monthly listeners.
With his hit single ‘Blinding Lights,’ released in November 2019, The Weeknd also holds the record for the most streamed song on Spotify, with 3.4 billion streams.The 33-year-old popstar has achieved worldwide digital success, with his hit single ‘Die For You,’ featuring Ariana Grande, going viral on Tik Tok.
After boycotting the Grammys for failing to nominate his album ‘After Hours,’ the award-winning artist dubbed the “King of streams” by Guinness World Records headlined Superbowl 55 in 2021.
