He managed to excel in various mediums such as vaudeville, radio, film, and television, which is quite rare. Burns and Allen, the comedy duo consisting of him and his wife Gracie Allen, made appearances on radio, television, and film.

When Burns turned 79, something amazing happened to his career. He had a sudden revival and became a friendly and beloved comedy elder statesman in the 1975 film called The Sunshine Boys. His performance was exceptional, and he even won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Burns was so close to achieving the prestigious EGOT status in the American entertainment industry. He had already won an Emmy, a Grammy, and an Oscar, only needing a Tony Award to complete the set. Burns reached the age of 100 in 1996 and kept working until a few weeks before he passed away from cardiac arrest at his home in Beverly Hills, shortly after celebrating his 100th birthday.
