The moderator of Face the Nation, who is 41 years old, and her husband Yado Yakub, are happy to announce the arrival of their second child. They have a new baby boy named Malek Murphy Yakub.
Baby Malek was born on Wednesday, April 28th at 12:46 p.m. in Sibley Memorial Hospital, located in Washington, D.C. The baby weighed 8 pounds and 4 ounces, and was 20 inches long.
According to a statement given to PEOPLE, the CBS journalist mentioned that Brennan and Yakub wanted to choose a name for their second child that would honor both his Irish and Syrian heritage, just like they did with their first son, Eamon. Malek is an Arabic name that translates to “king.” His middle name, Murphy, comes from his family’s side, specifically the Brennan family.
PEOPLE has shared some exclusive photos where the family of four can be seen smiling. Brennan is holding her newborn baby in her arms.
Brennan expressed their excitement about welcoming Malek into the world, along with Yado and Eamon. They mentioned how they are looking forward to reconnecting with friends and loved ones as the pandemic comes to an end. I would like to express my gratitude to everyone at CBS News, particularly the Face the Nation team, for the incredible support they have provided us over the past year.
In December, Brennan took to Instagram to share some exciting news about their pregnancy. They wrote a heartfelt message expressing how their upcoming addition would bring a sense of hope during a challenging year.
Brennan expressed that although the celebrations will be toned down because of the pandemic, they are still filled with joy because their little one represents hope for a brighter year ahead. I want to express my gratitude to all of our FTN viewers for watching and supporting us throughout the year. We worked hard to keep you informed about the issues that affect you and your family. Thank you for your continued support!
In September 2018, the couple had their first son. During that time, Brennan shared exclusively with PEOPLE, saying, “Yado and I are feeling overwhelmed and completely smitten with our little boy, Eamon.”
We can’t wait to go back home and introduce our new baby to our dog Callie, as well as our family and friends. She expressed her gratitude to everyone, including her colleagues at CBS News, particularly the Face the Nation team, for their unwavering support over the past few months.
Brennan explained that they were looking for a name that would pay tribute to their son’s Irish-American and Syrian-American background. The name Eamon, pronounced Ay-mon, has a beautiful meaning in Irish, which is ‘guardian’. Interestingly, in Arabic, it has a slightly different spelling but carries the meaning of ‘righteous’. We chose it a while back when we were traveling through Ireland on a road trip.
In April 2018, Brennan shared her excitement about having a baby with PEOPLE. She said, “Yado and I are incredibly happy to be adding a baby boy to our family.” We are excited to announce that Callie, our 2½-year-old rescue dog, is going to have a new family member! We are thrilled and honored to be expecting a baby and we can’t wait for our newest addition to join us in September. We’re also excited to have them watch Face the Nation with us.
Brennan and Yakub crossed paths for the first time at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville back in 1998. They started dating in 2013 and eventually tied the knot in April 2015 in Washington D.C.
