George Roger Waters, who was born on September 6, 1943, is an English musician and singer-songwriter. He became a founding member of the rock band Pink Floyd in 1965, playing bass guitar. After Syd Barrett left the band in 1968, Roger Waters took on the role of Pink Floyd’s lyricist, co-lead vocalist, and conceptual leader until he left in 1985.
Pink Floyd became internationally successful with their concept albums, including The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall, and The Final Cut. By the early 1980s, they had achieved both critical acclaim and commercial success, making them one of the most popular groups in the music industry. Due to disagreements in creative direction, Waters departed in 1985 and initiated a legal dispute regarding the band’s name and material. In 1987, they reached a settlement outside of court.
Waters has released several solo studio albums, including “The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking,” “Radio K.A.O.S.,” “Amused to Death,” and “Is This the Life We Really Want?”. He released an opera called Ça Ira in 2005. It was a translation of Étienne and Nadine Roda-Gils’ libretto, which focused on the French Revolution.
